Netherlands and was introduced to the world of music by his parents and older brother. Although it wasn’t the kind of music he liked, it was music.
Moving to Germany he would go to the studio regularly to record covers of some well-known country songs, even recorded three of his own songs and was on stage several times, mostly in Germany and Belgium While he might have only started releasing music on digital platforms under the moniker John Smyths, Johan Smits has been sharing singles for years – so he’s not all that much of a newbie on the scene.
Raised on a diet of Kiss, Van Halen, Iron Maiden and AC/DC, Smyths found a base in the old-school rock scene; however, he’s not afraid to saunter across different genres and found himself wading through country music with Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and Alan Jackson.
For 2025, John Smyths was on stage in Viechtach (Bavaria), Gerolstein, Stolberg, Wolfhagen, Nijmegen (NL) and many more. He has been awarded for his song “Loving you makes me a better Man” at the Red Carpet Show International in Wageningen (NL) where he also was on stage.
He released his single at the end of August 2025, called “Now I’m Wiser” which got great critics all over the world.
He came back with “Last Night” which is a beautiful Country ballad, published in oktober 2025.
2026 will be an excellent year for John Smyths. He has been nominated for his latest song called “Last Night” by the International Singer Songwriter Association (ISSA) and by the Elite Music Awards (EMA) both in the USA. In March 2026 he received a Bronze Medal for the song “Last Night” from the European International Music Awards (EIMA).
Also for 2026, he´ll be in Nashville in the studio and the Netherlands to record songs for an album. While in Nashville, he will visit the last concert of Alan Jackson in the Nissan Stadium

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I love singing and being on stage, wether it´s for 5 or 500 people, it makes no difference to me. Most important thing is being on stage and entertain.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Well, it first started with hardrock, Kiss is still my biggest #1, but also listened to Iron Maiden, AC/DC, W.S.A.P and more. My first band was a coverrockband, then I went from coverrock to a band, playing Country rock. After that, I was into Country and performing alone for the moment. I´m busy to assemble a Band, so let´s see what the future will bring

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I´m still an independent artist

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Well, I´ve been in “the Voice of Germany” with an Elvis song called “in the Ghetto”. That was quite challenging.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Till now, i´ve got 6 singles published and there is an album on its way. Also, at the end of June, there will be an album published in the States, which is called “Best Texas Country Picking” on which my song “Last Night” will be on too. I´m very happy and proud for that.

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
Now I´m Wiser is all about getting older and learning things from the past. When you´re young, you think that you can take on the world and feel tough, when you grow older, you´ll realize that there is more than just being on the wrong side. You marry, have kids, settle down and just relax and be happy. That´s where this song is all about

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
I´ll be in the Netherlands in April in a studio to record an duet and 2 solo singles. Than, in June I´ll be in Nashville in the studio to record 2 more songs. There is already a pile of songs ready to make a whole album. Just have to figure out exactly when and where I can find the time to record it.
