PHILLYE
REGGAE LOVER’S ROCK ARTIST

Sonya Smith, more popularly known as Phillye (pronounced Philly) hailed from the small town of Willow Grove, just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received her stage name while at a studio in Kingston, Jamaica by popular producer Sly Dunbar who described her as a ‘fine filly’ from Philly. Her mother was a Jazz singer, and her father was a guitarist in the church. Her brothers were also musicians, who regularly held Jam Sessions at their home. These sessions coupled with the involvement in her church choir lead to Phillye’s undying love for music.

The versatile songstress describes herself as a passionate music lover and entertainer with a unique style. In 2015 she released her first single, “Live Your Life”, which showed much promise landing her on several international radio stations; this has also garnered her fan base in the Caribbean.

In Atlanta (USA), Rico Vibes at DaFlavaradio.com expressed an early interest saying “Phillye has the kind of voice that is perfectly suited for Lover’s Rock. Our listeners request her single daily.” The same sentiments were echoed at Flava 105.1 in Boston, Irie Jam Radio in New York, as well as Power 96.5 FM. Several other radio stations followed with great responses. She also made several appearances in various Reggae based Newspapers in Canada and England, as well as Jamaica.

In 2016 Phillye followed up with a new single, ‘Get It’ a dancehall song, appearing on Hardcore Riddim produced by Real Records UK. This song really wowed fans as this was a deviation from the Lover’s Rock she had become known for. 2018 and 2019 proved to be Phillye’s best years yet with her release, All I Ever Wanted, and her single, Weekend Love; a collab with one of Reggae’s top DJs, Sizzla. Phillye has taken the main stage in the industry with thousands of fans. Receiving countless radio placements, newspaper appearances and co-signs from highly established musicians.

Phillye is presently working on her first album entitled, Loveology; due to release March 2023. Phillye’s newly released single, Keep Your Head Up, released in December 2022 is gaining traction as it’s positive and uplifting message permeates the heart of anyone who hears it.

Phillye is currently preparing to go on a promotional tour to promote her new single, as well as introduce her upcoming album.
