Short bio
TexMex Shaman is a Dallas, TX based guitar player, composer and producer.
He’s been playing for 20+ years both live and in the studio.
His songs are unconventional when compared to today’s radio, but they are full of energy, surprises and innovation.
The latest EP “Fever in the South” is 6 songs of sonic brain bending groove.
Where are you based?
a little place called Dallas, TX. Just East of DeepInTheHeartOf
How long have you been making music?
I realized early on that music was a great uniter. I could play Eruption in the gym at lunch and the jocks, band geeks, cheerleaders and chess club would all come over and check it out. Long enough to know there’s something new to learn every-time I pick up my guitar
What genre would you consider your music to be?
I hate this question so much but if you have to put “music that most people don’t know what to make of” – and then the sub-genre would be adult contemporary
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
well, this isn’t a career, this is actually my 2nd rodeo. However, having said that, the only reason i’ve ever picked up a guitar is because I love it. I love the feeling I get when I can write a song that I’m proud of.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Anything that I find truth in. Doesn’t have to be a guitar player, doesn’t even have to be music. I get inspired by truth, honesty and love. And Jimmy Page. Always Jimmy Page.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
well, I would have to say based on my touring schedule I am not signed to a label and am happily independent
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
well I’ve been in the game long enough to see so many changes. It used to be getting seen playing live by an agent from a record label. Now it’s trying to get your song to be heard above the hundreds of thousands of artists just like you who can now make a masterpiece in their bedroom for next to nothing. its exciting but also presents many challenges
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
As TexMex Shaman I have one 6 song EP. More to come as we move into 2020.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
Sure. Its got 6 songs on it. The name of the EP comes from my dad. He used to be a big gambler – loves craps. He’d shout out those funny ass lines at the table like “snake eyes!” and “boxcars!” and such, you know. One of them was “Fever in the South!” – I think it had to do with rolling a 5 maybe in some formation? But that phrase I loved and always wanted to do something with it. All 6 songs are stand alone and have their own identity – this ain’t no rock opera.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Once I release this album on Jan 17th 2020 I’ll see what I feel like the next day.
