Square Tugs have been playing solidly around Brisbane since mid-2020 and are well-established on the live circuit. All members are veterans of the Brisbane punk scene and have been playing since the early 1980’s.
Their debut four-song EP, released in September 2021 received an outstanding response from community radio across Australia with “Vodka, Lime and Soda” reaching number 4 on the 4ZZZ Hot 100. The debut album “Monster Hits” was released in November 2022 and received an overwhelming response from fans and critics around the world. The album includes the 2022 Brisbane 4ZZZ Hot 100, #1 song “I Don’t Like It”.
Their highly anticipated second album “Land Speed Record” was released in June 2024 featuring seventeen slices of the bands unique brand of multi-genre punk rock including the 2023 Brisbane 4ZZZ Hot 100 #1 song “One Minute Love Song”.
Square Tugs are Davey Tug on guitar and vocals, Randy Tug on drums and vocals, and Paulie Tug on bass and vocals, Robbie Tug on guitar and vocals.

What genre would you consider your music to be?
We are definitely a Punk band, and are influenced by the 1980’s american west coast sound
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
We have all been playing since the mid 1980’s, yes we are old
What are your biggest musical influences?
early Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Adolescents as well as classic UK punk
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
We are an Independant band and do everything in house including all our videos. 13 at last count. They are on our YouTube channel.
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
We play a lot in South East Queensland in Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Butr we find it hard to tour outside of our home state due to our Grown up full time jobs we have to maintain.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
2 Full length albums and 2 EP’s. we are working on album number 3 now its called “Rocket To Uranus”
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
their new single ‘Cocaine Bear.’ The song was inspired after the band watched the movie of the same name, telling the story of a bear that ate cocaine and went on a rampage, what could posibly go wrong? With their trademark irreverent style, the song is an uptempo punk rock track that askes the question “does a bear shit in the woods” Currently a live favouite with the audiences around the traps “We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we take our music seriously,” said [Paulie Tug]. “We want to write songs that are fun, catchy, and make people think. ‘Cocaine Bear’ is a perfect example of that. The movie was so absurd, we just had to immortalize it in a punk rock song.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
We are also working on a EP of our favorite Punk Rock songs we will do cover of, just for the fun of it.
