Where are you based?
London, UK
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music since I was a teenager
What genre would you consider your music to be?
A lot of websites describe my music as Contemporary R&B, as my sound is very eclectic, ranging from House, R&B, UK Garage etc.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I have loved music since I was born, my parents used to go to a lot of concerts and there was always so much music in our house, ranging from Soul, to Pop just everything.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Michael, Janet, Prince a lot of R&B artist but I have eclectic taste
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I’m independent, my songs for the most part are signed to labels but I’m not
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
The business in general is tough, for any minority group, being a black male artist in the U.K. as a singer is not easy, but when your born to do something you have to do it.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Oh God lol, a lot! I have 3 albums, Undeniable Chemistry, Throwback Season and my latest album Wing and I have featured on a lot of House & Garage singles since 2005 to present day.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
Yes, so my new single Can I Be Me is probably one of the most important records I’ve released to date as it’s socially conscious and was predominantly written about being part of the LGBTQ + community which I’m proudly a part of, and having the right to be yourself, which to be honest I think anyone can relate to. Right now I feel that homophobia is at a shocking high for this day and age, with various countries banning the right to identify as queer and the consequence is jail which is mind blowingly awful. It’s as if we have gone back in time. I wrote the song after a deep conversation and Sebb Junior who is one of the biggest house producers in Europe produced it, I love working with him. The video is a celebration of Black Queer culture and featured clips of some of the most influential black gay men past and present from James Baldwin, Justin Fashenu to Colman Domingo. Art should reflect the times and you have to stand for something or what’s the point?
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
I’m currently working on new music, I had a song out recently with Ed Case, Ed Case & Oggie – The Night Is Young, it was very disco influenced and I’m attracted to doing more music in that direction
