Kindra In Christ has literally been called by the Lord as a Contemporary Christian Singer and Songwriter. As of August 2018, Kindra had never written a song, but the Lord began downloading songs to her, and it was now one of the primary ways that God communicates with her. Kindra recognizes that she is but the pen and the Lord is the Author. “Intimate, gritty, raw, and insightful”, these songs bare her soul and offer a glimpse inside the intimate dialogue between Kindra and the Lord as she lays personal struggles and petitions at His feet.
Where are you based?
Nashville, Tennessee
How long have you been making music?
I started writing songs four years ago, but my love of music began very early. Even as a baby, my mom quickly learned that music soothed me and would stop my crying. From the time I was very young, I would go to sleep with the radio on, listening to Christian music until I fell asleep. I also loved singing and joined the church and school choirs as a young child. I can’t remember a time when music hasn’t been a part of who I am
What genre would you consider your music to be?
Contemporary Christian
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
It was actually a “Who”! The Lord is my total inspiration to create music. I call these songs the “music of His heart” because He is the inspiration and creativity behind each and every one. Truthfully, I would never have been inspired to create music unless the Lord called me to do it, and I would never want to create any music except unto the Lord. I guess to paraphrase a classic hit, “(He’s) the meaning in my life; (He’s) the inspiration”!
What are your biggest musical influences?
Christian music has been an integral part of my life since I was young. Beginning at about four years of age, I would listen to music to help me sleep at night and was involved in church and school choirs. It has been such an important, and pivotal, lifeline for me to God, and it has helped keep me connected to Him. At my most desperate and vulnerable times, I have used songs as personal prayers to the Lord. The songs and/or artists that have most inspired me have varied based on the seasons and experiences of my life. It is probably no surprise that Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith were very influential during my childhood and early teenage years. In my ongoing battle with anxiety and depression, I have personally connected with Plumb’s music. As I have been learning and growing as a songwriter, King David greatly influences and inspires me through his Psalms. He is fearless in his candid, open, and honest dialogue with the Lord, yet always maintains a holy reverence for God.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
Currently, I am an independent artist
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
The biggest challenge that I have faced is me! All the baggage and wounds I initially carried with me as I began writing this music felt like an albatross! It created a lot of doubt, insecurities, and retriggered places of trauma in my life. Truthfully, it has been brutal. But through this process, I have learned first-hand the faithfulness of God. He truly has used all of these things for my good and has used them to inspire this “music of His heart”. These areas of raw pain added an edge and vulnerability to this music that you don’t often hear. As He has healed these areas of injury and trauma in my life, the songs serve as my personal testimony of His goodness. I serve as a witness in sharing His message of hope and healing through these songs.
