Where are you based?
Berlin Germany
How long have you been making music?
40 years
What genre would you consider your music to be?
EDM/ R&B/ Pop
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I’ve been playing guitar and keyboard since 48 and have always felt comfortable on stage. I’ve also loved music since I was a child. So it was actually predestined that I would make music.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Definitely the funk & soul and disco music of the 80’s and 90’s. The many melodies in the songs and the harmony vocals have influenced me and still play a big role in my songs. I love melodies. They give a song life. Sometimes it’s enough for me to like a song just because it has a nice melody in it.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am an independent artist because I have only had bad experiences with labels. Unfortunately, I had to realize that things have become even worse these days.
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
That’s not so easy to answer, as there were four musical phases in my life. The first was the beginning of my musical life in my band and all the challenges that came with it. My second phase was my work as a DJ. The third was my musical life as a producer and studio owner and fourth, for the last ten years, working as an artist Jimmy de la Mar, producer, lyricist, songwriter and label. Serious things happened in each of these periods. To list them all would go beyond the scope of this article. But the best moment was the performance in Berlin’s Olympia Stadium in front of over 50,000 people.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
I’ve released 31 songs and two albums so far.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
The song Will You Run Away is a single from my album EDM Experiment, which was released in April. I used to produce a lot of house songs and with the new album I left my comfort zone and turned more towards the EDM genre. The music should be more for the young audience and be played in clubs or festivals. This song is a good example of that. Nevertheless, I still try to make sure that melodies and vocals are important. This song invites you to dance and sing along and that’s important to me.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
As already mentioned, my third album EDM Experiments will be released in mid-April. Celebrate, Will You Run Away and at the beginning of April, I Want Your Soul will be released, are three songs from this album. They show the listener what to expect from the album. I recorded all 16 songs with different singers. So this album sounds more like a compilation. It doesn’t get boring and you don’t know what the next song will be. A month later my second album Tropical Summer Vibes will be released. It consists of toropical, lation house, as well as deep house and commercial house. I am proud of the fact that there are 8 Spanish and 10 English songs on the album. I love the Spanish language and I really wanted to release songs in this language. So I will be releasing a lot of new and different songs in the near future.
