Irrational Direction is a fictional rap group created and performed by myself, Myra Miles. The group consists of transfemme cyborg rapper RE:Myra, human rapper King ID (or the KID), and robot producer and group namesake, Irrational Direction.

Where are you based?
Muncie, IN

How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music for 2 and a half years, and releasing music for a year.

What genre would you consider your music to be?
I would describe my style of music to be experimental hip hop with a mix of electronic and occasionally noise

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I was inspired to starting making my own music from a quote from the developers of the game “Hotline Miami”, who once said if there’s a game you want to play that doesn’t exist yet, make it. That’s my mentality when I create music.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Kanye, Childish Gambino, clipping, and other trans and nonbinary artists like DAMAG3, CAKE!, and Hoodie Hilltop.

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I’m a completely independent artist. Everything from the music to the videos are made by me a me alone from start to finish.

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
As a trans artist, I get a lot of unpleasant comments about my appearance, a lot of insecure guys calling me ugly or saying I’m a man to try to get to me, but that is also stuff I expected being openly trans on the internet, as much as I or any other artist shouldn’t have to. Of course there are other challenges that are normal for any artist starting out, getting people to actually listen to your music, self critique, and imposter syndrome, and getting the support of other artists who’s music I’m a fan of, such as upcoming features Hoodie Hilltop, CAKE!, and robin’s ghost, and previous collaborators like Mondo The Alien and Stella Dolce.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
I have released 3 projects so far. Two instrumental albums, “If I Wanted a Mixtape, I Would’ve Made a Mixtape” and “Dreams Can Go Wrong”, and a rap album with my most recent full album, TRANSHUMANIST AGENDA.

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
My latest release was an unofficial remix of the song “Before Long” by French producer Kognitif. I found the song while looking for samples, and I was such a great song on its own that I began freestyling as soon as I heard it and made the single. I wanted to showcase my improvment in flow and lyrics from my last album, and announce my upcoming album K:ID Stories, which has a consistently dark sound like this song.

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
I will be releasing my forth album and second rap album, K:ID STORIES, in early 2024. The album will be a more conventional rap album, mostly by King ID, and feature Hoodie Hilltop, CAKE!, and robin’s ghost. The album will be around 14 tracks, focuses more on darker sounds and samples than my previous project, and is an improvement on all fronts that I’m excited to release.
