EJ Carey is not just a singer-songwriter; she’s a storyteller, a powerhouse vocalist, and a fearless artist ready to expose trespassers at her discretion. Based out of Boston, MA, EJ Carey is a dynamic force in the New England pop-rock music scene.

A true child of Warped Tour and the 2000s Libby Lu mall-pop era, she brings a fresh and captivating approach to the nostalgic sounds she grew up with. Honing her songwriting skills by collaborating with artists from Nashville to Toronto, EJ has gained diverse perspectives that continue to shape her brazen writing and vocal style, which is evident in her sharp-tongued, confessional, and confrontational lyricism.

EJ Carey seamlessly blends the infectious melodies of pop, the storytelling traditions of country music, and the balls-to-the-wall effervescence of skate park pop-punk into her music. Her roaring vocals draw comparisons to Hayley Williams and Avril Lavigne, while her textured R&B flair evokes the styles of JoJo and Demi Lovato.

Where are you based?
Boston, MA

How long have you been making music?
21 years

What genre would you consider your music to be?
Pop/Pop-Punk

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
There was never a question as to “if” I was going to pursue music. I’ve been in the recording studio and writing since I was 9, and I’ve never looked back. Hearing artists like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and the Backstreet Boys growing up always made me want to sing, but it was bands from the Warped Tour scene like Fall Out Boy, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, and even Avril Lavigne that really put me on track to know where exactly I wanted to land genre-wise.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Avril Lavigne is probably my number 1, but Paramore is definitely up there. I love Demi Lovato, Fall Out Boy, Britney Spears (really anything Max Martin and Denniz Pop did in the 90s and 2000s).

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am an independent artist!

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
The biggest challenge in my childhood years through college was overcoming the fear of being seen, of not being good enough. As a working adult, the largest struggle I have is finding time and financial resources to create the art and give it the attention it deserves.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
One album with 9 songs in 2016 called Loaded Question, two singles in 2021 that landed on my EP, Outlier, with 5 songs total, a single in 2024 called “Crime of Passion,” and it’s remix followed in early 2025.

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
“Eviscerate” is the antithesis of succumbing to a life of monotony. Too often, the story of a woman disappointed by a partner goes in one ear and out the other, but that’s not an option with this loud and proud proclamation. With verses delivered like rap bars, EJ definitively declares to leave behind those who can’t keep up with her personal growth, with no room for interpretation. Crunchy guitars combined with sparkling arpeggiations reminiscent of 2000s pop blend seamlessly with more current TikTok-friendly electronic production, uniting generations under EJ’s single truth: that we deserve better. Fiery phrases punctuated by EJ’s signature pop-rock belt evoke the power of singers like Hayley Williams, Demi Lovato, and Cassadee Pope to come through on the promise of liberation from complacency.

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Not yet, but I’m hoping to get back into the studio soon! It’s always a guessing game with me.
