Dimitrius Stephens, better known as Dee Bomb, is an award winning hip hop artist & producer from Minneapolis, MN. During his early mixtape days, Dee Bomb began establishing himself in the twin cities hip hop scene with four well-received albums, an extended play, singles, & a slew of features in his discography.
Where are you based?
I’m based out of Minneapolis, MN.
How long have you been making music?
I been rapping every since I was a kid but I started recording music in a friend’s basement all throughout high school. I put out my first mixtape back in 2006 called “Bomb Threat” when I was 18, it’s 2021 and I haven’t stopped yet. I owe that to the supporters so I appreciate everyone that rock with my music.
What genre would you consider your music to be?
i’m 100% Hip Hop! I’m versatile so instead of multiple sub-genres I’d just say ‘Hip Hop’.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I was 3-4 years old and I saw the LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” video and I thought it was the coolest thing ever, better than anything else. I knew then that I wanted to be a rapper and of course I added more positions on my resume over the years but I wanted to be a rapper first and foremost.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Too many to name including the genres so I’ll name just a few and leave it at that. LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, T.I., Jay-z, Michael Jackson, Prince, just to name a few. Production I would say Jermaine Dupri, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Kanye, Swizz Beatz, Scott Storch, etc. It’s longer list than that, trust me on that.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I’m signed to my digital entertainment company, Bangin Noize Entertainment. The company operates as a record label, event coordination, and a mixtape sponsor. I was signed to a local label during my first album run but afterwards it’s been Bangin Noize since. I’m always open to putting out records via different labels, but the situation would have to make sense but that’s about it.
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Only challenge I really have is to make sure my next album is better than my last, my mom always tell me that so I ran with it.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
I had my single & mixtape days of course but officially, I have 4 studio albums and an extended play.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
My latest album is called, “The Progress Album”. It’s a soulful vibe with fun creative content like my singles, ‘Motivator’ and ‘Circus’. It is my best work to date and possibly my second classic album in my catalog but I’ll let you decide that. I got an artist out in Eau Claire named Cudlino and I got an artist out of the twin cities named Just Wulf featured on the album. I just know you will be impressed once you’re done listening to the album.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
I’m producing an artist’s EP and an entire compilation album. In the works of two tours both as an artist and as a DJ. Elevated Mind Tour Vol. 3 will be coming soon so be ready for that. The Progress Album is available now on all DSPs.
