1. Thank you for being in our interview today Alonzo. We were thrilled to learn about your recent tour, can you tell us more?
Thank you so much for taking the time to speak to me. The tour was by far one of the biggest honors of my career. This tour presented by Live Nation was called “4U The Music of Prince W/ Symphony”. It’s a Symphonic celebration of Prince’s music. This tour is the FIRST and ONLY approved tour by Prince’s Estate and I was the first lead singer on the tour with the Estates Approval. Just singing his music in front of an Orchestra every night was so cool. The Estate has been very protective about people singing his music so it was a great honor.
2. What were some of favorite venues you played on this tour?
Id say my top 2 venues so far are Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado & The Masonic in SF. For many Red Rocks is a bucket list venue to play & the energy there is unlike anything ive ever felt on any stage before. My personal FAVORITE venue/city was definitely The Masonic in San Francisco! So much energy was in that place and San Francisco knows how to party haha
3. Did you visit any cities which were new to you or that you had never played before?
Yes! We played Spokane, Wa. Ive never heard of this place and they had some of the most interesting sweet people ive ever met. Prince has some real fans there as well. A lady came up to me crying after the show just to thank me. I was having a rough day that day and she really lifted my spirits.
4. What do you think are some of the biggest challenges in being a musical artist in 2019?
I think everyone’s Journey is different. Speaking from my experience, I’d say the 2 biggest challenges for me have been perfectionism and fear. Fear of Not being perfect. Fear of being judged. Fear of not being accepted. Perfectionism is a big challenge for many artists. We hold ourselves back sometimes years because we so desperately want everything to be right. The minute we realize that nothing is ever perfect we can be set free. I also find it so interesting how we allow other people’s opinions to determine how we feel about ourselves. We have to stop worrying about what other people think and stand firm behind our art. I have to remind myself of these things daily. One of my daily affirmations is I AM WORTHY.
5. What can we expect from your debut original music release?
Expect the unexpected!!
