INTERCONTINEN7AL is the first rock band in history to record music across all 7 continents, and is comprised of over 30 musicians from 15 different countries. Our songs “Manor Hill”, “Puerto Aisen”, “Night Shift”, and “The Chamber” are the only original compositions to ever include instrumentation recorded on 7 continents – to include percussion and/or guitar from research stations in Antarctica. The band’s music spans a multitude of genres, including alternative & hard rock, folk, pop, blues, jazz, Latin, funk, metal, gospel, prog, classical, reggae, bluegrass, bossa nova and even showtunes. All proceeds from streams go towards various humanitarian causes and non-profit charities.

Where are you based?
The founder of the band, Matt Smith, resides in Castle Rock, CO. However, the rest of the band is spread out all across the world (UK, Argentina, Egypt, South Africa, Japan, Australia, etc)

How long have you been making music?
Our band has been making music since 2020, when the pandemic began. The virtual collaboration was a direct result of not being able to perform music in person during that time period.

What genre would you consider your music to be?
As mentioned in our bio, we are primarily a rock band but branch out into a wide variety of styles and genres (blues, metal, folk, etc)

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Not necessarily pursuing a career, as this project was started more simply for the love of music and working together to create songs with fellow artists all over the globe.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Matt Smith, Founder: My personal musical influences are heavily based in rock and classic rock – Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell, John Frusciante, Beatles, Beach Boys just to name a few. If we were to list the influences of all the other members of the group, we would be here for quite a while 🙂

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
We are an independent artist, and release our music ourselves via digital stores , BandLab, Soundcloud/Bandcamp, and our website

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
The biggest challenge has been getting our music heard and reaching more potential fans, as music curators tend to be extremely selective for the genres and styles that they want to present in their playlists and blogs.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
We have released five albums (or Volumes) to date, but also have additional music and playlists available from our website (including a “Best of” collection, B-sides and rarities, and cover songs)

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
With our latest release, we continue our mission of creating music across all 7 continents, and donating all proceeds to charity

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Yes, we are working on finalizing our next album – Volume 6 – which should be released right around Christmas 2024. After that, we are looking to formally release “World Over”, which will be a collection of all our songs that have been recorded across the 7 continents.
